Pep Guardiola signs new 1-year contract with option of additional 12 months at Manchester City: Reports

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly extended his stay at the Etihad by 12 months. The legendary Spaniard has been at the club since arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2016.

Under his tutelage, City have become the team to beat, especially in England, winning six of the last seven Premier League titles, including the last four, a first in English top-flight history. Guardiola has also led his side to their first continental treble (2022-23), emulating Manchester United (1998-99) as the only English sides to do so.

However, with his current contract ending at the end of the season and City losing their last four games across competitions - a first in Guardiola's illustrious managerial resume - there was much speculation about his future.

The Athletic's David Ornstein, though, has quashed such reports by tweeting that Guardiola is set to stay at the Etihad till the end of the 2025-26 season, with the option of another year.

An official confirmation from City is expected soon, as per GOAL.

How Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have fared this season

Manchester City had a decent start to the season, but four defeats on the spin mean that Pep Guardiola's side need to regroup and start all over again. In the absence of 2024 Ballon d'Or winner Rodri - who's out for the season with an ACL injury - the Cityzens have struggled.

They are coming off defeats at Tottenham Hotspur (EFL Cup), Bournemouth (Premier League), Sporting CP (UEFA Champions League) and Brighton & Hove Albion (Premier League). City will seek a return to winning ways when they host Spurs in the league on Saturday (November 23).

The Cityzens - after losing their last two league outings - are second in the standings, five points behind leaders Liverpool (28) after 11 games. In the Champions League, they are 10th.
