PSG enter race to sign Liverpool and Manchester United target - Reports
PSG have reportedly entered the fray to snap up Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman, a Liverpool and Manchester United target. The 26-year-old has been with the Serie A side since the 2022-23 season.
Lookman has registered 50 goal contributions - 32 goals and 18 assists - in 79 games across competitions for Atalanta. That includes a memorable hat-trick in the 3-0 UEFA Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen - who were dealt their only loss of the season. It marked La Dea's maiden European title and first across any level in 13 years.
However, despite being contracted to the Gewiss Stadium till 2026, Lookman has attracted interest from mulitple clubs from across the continent, especially after his Europa League heroics.
As per La Gazzetta Dello Sport (via PSG Talk), the Parisians are eyeing Lookman after seemingly conceding defeat in their pursuit of Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen as they look to replace Kylian Mbappe. Luis Enrique's side have reportedly commenced discussions with Lookman's entourage, who have subsequently informed La Dea.
Interestingly, Calcio Mercato (via Caught Offside) has reported interest from the Premier League trio of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool. Atalanta are seeking €60 million for the former RB Leipzig man, which is unlikely to pose a problem for the three clubs.
What's next for PSG, Liverpool and Manchester United?
PSG opened their 2024-25 season with a convicing 4-1 win at Le Havre in their Ligue 1 opener on Saturday (August 17). Lee Kang-in opened the scoring inside three minutes for Luis Enrique's side as they led at the break.
Gautier Lloris equalised for the hosts three minutes into the second period, but the Parisians scored thrice in the last six minutes - through Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola and Randal Kolo Muani - to take all three points.
They next take on Montpellier at home on August 23 in their next league outing. The Parisians won the fixture 3-0 at home last season and won 6-2 away.
Meanwhile, Liverpool got their Arne Slot era underway with a hard-fought 2-0 win at newly promoted Ipswich Town on Saturday. Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah scored both goals in the second half. The Reds next take on Brentford at home on August 25.
Coming to Manchester United, they bounced back from their FA Community Shield loss to Manchester City with a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Fulham on Saturday. Erik ten Hag's side next take on Brighton & Hove Albion away on August 24.
