Real Madrid confident of signing superstar defender as a free agent in 2025 - Reports

Real Madrid are optimistic of their chances of signing Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies for free next summer. The Canadian is entering the last season of his deal at the Allianz Arena, having arrived in the summer of 2019.

The 23-year-old has been a key first-team player for the Bavarian giants, registering 195 appearances across competitions in five seasons, contributing 11 goals and 31 assists. That includes three goals and six assists in 42 outings last season.

One of those strikes came in the UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg at Real Madrid, putting Bayern ahead on aggregate heading into the final few minutes of the tie. However, Los Blancos scored twice late on before beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 to win a record-extending 15th title.

The reigning La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners have been in Davies' pursuit for a while. But a move seems unlikely this summer, as DiarioAS (via Madrid Xtra) has reported that the club are looking to snap him up for free next summer.

Los Blancos are well-stocked in left-back for now, with Ferland Mendy set to ink an extension till 2027 after returning from vacation following his Euro 2024 involvement with France. That essentially means a move for Davies is not an immediate priority.

Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies' contract extension talks have hit a roadblock. The club have offered to raise his salary to €13 million, but that's well short of the player's demand of €20 million per year (as per tZ via GOAL).

It remains to be seen if Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has success in keeping Davies at the club, with new manager Vincent Kompany desirous of having the defender beyond 2025.

The Bavarians have reportedly put an asking price of €50 million for Davies and could sell him if he continues to stall an extension. However, with the recent development that Real Madrid are waiting to see Davies see out his Bayern deal, it remains to be seen what transpires next in this saga.

The 23-year-old made the 2024 Copa America semi-final, where Canada fell 2-0 to eventual champions Argentina earlier this month.
