Real Madrid reach agreement to sign Bundesliga superstar, player set to sign contract in January: Reports
Real Madrid are reportedly set to snap up Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies when the transfer window reopens in January. The 24-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the Bavarian giants.
Davies has been a key first-team player for Bayern since arriving from Vancouver in January 2019. In 210 appearances across competitions, he has contributed 11 goals and 34 assists. That includes three assists in 15 outings across competitions this season for Vincent Kompany's side.
However, with the Canadian's contract extension talks with Bayern apparently hitting a standstill and Los Blancos suffering an injury crisis, Davies could be headed to the Santiago Bernabeu. As per Marca's Jose Diaz (via Madrid Xtra), the two parties have an agreement and that Davies will sign the dotted line in January.
Carlo Ancelotti's side have been blighted by injuries this season, especially in defence. Centre-back Eder Militao, who suffered a second ACL injury in as many seasons, right-back Dani Carvajal and Joan Martinez have also had ACL injuries. David Alaba is already out injured.
Los Blancos snapped a two-game losing streak across competitions last weekend with a 4-0 La Liga home win over Osasuna. However, victory came at a cost, as they lost Rodrygo, Miltao and Lucas Vazquez sustained injuries.
As per The Athletic, Madrid have nine injured players currently, including goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, and a host of defenders, complicating their quest to compete on multiple fronts.
What's next for Real Madrid?
Real Madrid are in the midst of a decent season but have gone through a slump in recent weeks. Having opened the season with a UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta, Madrid have a slow start to their La Liga and UEFA Champions League title defences.
Following their aforementioned league win over Osasuna, Los Blancos return to action after the international break with a La Liga trip to Leganes on November 24. Three days later, they visit Premier League leaders Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League, where they have lost two of their opening eight games.
Carlo Ancelotti's side trail La Liga leaders Barcelona (33) by six points but have a game in hand. However, they have work to do in the Champions League, where they slumped to 18th following a surprise 3-1 home loss to AC Milan last week.
Madrid are looking to win back-to-back La Liga titles for the first time in more than a decade and snap up consecutive Champions League titles.
