Sergio Aguero sues former club Barcelona over unpaid wages - Reports

According to a report by Diario Sport via Football Espana, Sergio Aguero is set to sue Barcelona for €3 million in unpaid wages. The striker joined the side in 2021 on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester City had expired.

Aguero is the top goalscorer for the reigning Premier League champions, with 260 goals from 390 games, with an impressive minutes per goal return of 107 and 0.67 goals per match.

The Argentine joined Barca for free on a two-year deal but had to hang up his boots after just 165 minutes over five games after being diagnosed with a heart condition. The striker had agreed to waive his second year's wages but wasn't paid for the first year of the deal.

Barcelona reportedly hoped to pay the former striker but couldn't after their insurers declined to make the payment. Aguero is reportedly open to an out-of-court settlement with the Spanish giants.

When Sergio Aguero retired from football at Barcelona

In 2021, former Argentina international Sergio Aguero announced his retirement from professional football at 33 after joining Barcelona.

He bagged five English Premier League titles, six League Cups, three Community Shields and one FA Cup during his time with the Cityzens. He didn't have the same success with Barca, bagginga single goal and no silverware.

Following the discovery of a heart condition, the striker told a press conference at the club, saying via Eurosport:

"This conference is to announce I have decided to stop playing professional football, It is a very difficult moment. The decision I have taken for my health; the problem I had a month and a half ago. I have been in good hands with the medical staff. I made the decision 10 days ago after doing everything possible to have some hope of playing on.
"I want to thank Atletico Madrid who took a chance on me when I was 18 and Manchester City, everyone knows who I feel about City and how well they treated me there. I will leave with my head held high. I don't know what awaits me in the next part of my life. But I know I have people who love me. I will always remember the amazing things."

Despite his disappointing stint with Barcelona, Sergio Aguero will go down as a Manchester City and Premier League legend, with his 184 strikes in the English top flight good enough for fifth in the all-time goalscorer charts.
