Rumour: Southampton eyeing move for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez
Southampton are planning to make an audacious move to prise Javier Hernandez away from Manchester United, according to reports.
The Mexican international has been reported in recent times to be angling for a move away from Old Trafford. Hernandez was thought to be especially disappointed with his lack of playing time under David Moyes.
With Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck believed to be ahead of him in the pecking order, Chicharito might finally be heading for the exit doors this summer.
Southampton meanwhile need to get their recruitment back on track after losing five first team options in Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers.
With Jay Rodriguez and new Italian import Graziano Pelle, the only two viable options upfront for Ronald Koeman at the moment, the Mexican would provide the Saints with some much needed depth and firepower.
Hernandez had his most difficult season as a Red Devil last season around. After scoring in double digits in his first three Premier League campaigns, Chicarito failed to imprees under Moyes last time around, as he scored only four goals in the Premier League and nine goals in all competitions.
Southampton were reported to have wanted the Mexican in the deal that sent Luke Shaw to Old Trafford earlier this season but it was said that Hernandez outright rejected any suggestions of a move to the south coast, deeming the move too big a demotion.
