Rumour: Spurs flop Roberto Soldado is Atletico Madrid’s top target
Tottenham Hotspur flop Roberto Soldado has emerged as Atletico Madrid’s top summer transfer target, according to Marca.
The La Liga winners and Champions League runners-up are set to lose their star striker Diego Costa to Chelsea in a deal worth around £32 million so Diego Simeone is well aware of what he needs to do this summer.
It is understood in the Spanish press that Soldado, who scored just six goals in the Premier League last season, is Simeone’s main attacking target.
The Spanish striker signed for Spurs from Valencia last summer for £26m but struggled quite badly, scoring just twice from open play in the league.
However, it is believed that Simeone sees his true quality in the play and performances that he showed while in La Liga, prior to the 2013/14 campaign.
Marca claims that Soldado is desperate to leave White Hart Lane after a disaster move and would even consider a pay cut to get away from north London. That is good news for Simeone, who could save money on Soldado’s transfer and use it more wisely somewhere else in his squad that is set to be raided by clubs around Europe.
