Rumour: West Ham set to capture out of favour Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott

Joleon Lescott of England and Manchester City

If reports are to be believed, relegation battlers West Ham United are on the brink of signing Manchester City outcast Joleon Lescott this January transfer window.

The Hammers are said to have offered the center back a £90,000 a week contract to land him at Upton Park to help drag them out of the relegation dog-fight.

The Englishman, who joined the blues from Everton in 2009, is now warming the benches at the Etihad, playing only when key players are injured. The player has only 6 months remaining on his current contract, and is most likey to leave Manchester this winter to keep his World Cup ambitions alive.

However, with other clubs monitoring the situation with the defender, it is unclear whether the 31-year old will prefer a move the relegation threatened West Ham United. Sam Allardyce and the co-owners at the club have their work cut out for them if they are to lure Lescott to East London.
