Rumour: Roma could sell Manchester United target Kevin Strootman for £28m
Manchester United could be set to re-open talks with Roma over the signing of midfielder Kevin Strootman after being initially frustrated in their pursuit of the Dutchman.
Strootman, 24, was emerged as a target for new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, but the Dutchman was rebuffed following Strootman’s serious knee injury which ruled him out of the World Cup.
Van Gaal, who made Strootman a key part of his Netherlands side, was also put off by the fact that Roma were very unwilling to sell.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport have suggested that Roma might be willing to sell if United meet their asking price of £28 million.
Central midfield is an area where Manchester United have struggled this season and Van Gaal had identified Strootman as the man to fix those problems.
Last summer David Moyes signed Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini from his former side Everton but that transfer has proven itself to be a total disaster. Fellaini has failed to establish himself at United and has rarely looked as if he belongs at Old Trafford.
It will be interesting to see if Strootman can have a more positive effect on the Man United should he sign.
