Salgaocar FC-Salcete FC to launch Youth Football Centre at Sao Jose de Areal

I-League side Salgaocar Football Club will sponsor a youth centre at Sao Jose de Areal, which is part of Salcete FC’s grassroot development initiative.The Salgaocar FC sponsored centre will be inaugurated by Swati Salgaocar at Pabribatt ground, Areal on Tuesday, May 7 at 4:30pm.

The idea behind the grassroots football initiative of Salcete FC is to expand the pool of Goan players. 45 boys have already registered and the boys will be trained 2-3 times a week. Senior Salgaocar FC team players from Areal will mentor 10 to 12 young footballers each in skills, attitude and discipline to help them become professional footballers.

For decades Salcete FC has been the nursery of football in Goa. Since its foundation in 1980 it has provided platform for many young players to improve and display their talent. Mauricio Afonso, Climax Lawrence and Roberto Fernandes are among their few ex-players who have gone on to captain the Indian national team.

The Salcete FC announcement of this initiative with Salgaocar FC follows on the footstep of announcing the Dempo SC-Salcete FC Football Grassroot Development Initiative .
