Salgaocar FC's U19s trounce Cortalim SC 9-0 to make play-offs
Salgaocar FC’s juniors continued their dominance after trouncing Cortalim SC 9-0 in a one-sided GFA Third Division match played at the Cansaulim ground, courtesy a fine hat-trick by Denil Rebello and a brace each from Klins Mendes, Yamnur Pinjar and Liston Colaco. The winners now await the Runners-up in Group A in the semi-final play-off on the 29th after an all-win record saw them comfortably top Group B of the Mormugao zone.
The Greens have now scored a mammoth 43 goals in their 6 league engagements, having conceded just 3. The forwards were guilty of wasting chance after chance, especially in the second period as Salgaocar’s juniors seem determined to get the tally up to double digits, a score line that has eluded them thus far.
Yamnur Pinjar opened the scoring in the 9th minute from a terrific cross to the far post by Harmanjot Singh. Harmanjot himself came close to finding the target 5 minutes later as his left foot screamer was fisted over by the rival goal keeper.
Salgaocar’s midfielder Klins Mendis was in the thick of things thereafter scoring his side’s second and third goal respectively, the latter a beautifully curled effort in the top right hand corner.
Denil then met another delightful Harmanjot cross to make it 4-0 by the 31st minute and Yamnur chested beautifully from a cross from Gurba, dribbled a defender and slammed past Goal keeper to ensure the Greens went into the breather sitting pretty on a five goal cushion.
In the second half, Cortalim kept the Greens at bay for nearly 20 minutes before succumbing to the pressure. Denil got his second after a strong run saw his beat the last man and hammer past a helpless keeper. Liston Colaco finally added his name to the score sheet after he dribbled past two defenders to score Salgaocar’s 7th.
Denil earned a well-deserved hat-trick in the 84th minute after receiving a through ball from Klins. The rout was complete when Samuel Costa ran the length of the pitch and cut back Liston to score in style.
The winners of the semi-final play-offs will earn a promotion to the GFA Second Division for season 2015-16.
