Salgaocar FC's U19s and U14s score resounding victories!

Salgaocar FC's Juniors

Salgaocar FC's Juniors brought much joy to the Green camp as the Under-19 and Under-14 sides posted resounding victories in GFA's Third Division and U14 First Division Leagues respectively, played at Cansaulim and Benaulim grounds. Whilst the U19s notched up their 5th successive victory by beating Rising Stars SC 4-0, the U14s beat Churchill Brothers juniors 6-0.

Salgaocar FC's U19 coach, Anthony Pereira, made several changes to his regular starting eleven, having won their last four matches convincingly. They have now scored a total of 34 goals in their five outings, having conceded just three goals. The scoreline on the day would have been a lot worse for the Rising Stars if not for the outstanding performance by their custodian under the bar. He pulled off some outstanding saves through the course of the game thereby restricting the Greens to just four goals.

The Rising Stars defended resolutely through the course of the first half, depending on the quick breaks to test the Salgaocar defence and keeper. The plan seemed to work wonderfully until the 55th minute when one of the defenders received his second booking of the game for dissent and given the marching orders. Down to 10 men, Rising Stars SC had everyone back and tried to frustrate the Salgaocar forwards but it was only a matter of time before the defence caved in. In the 69th minute, a delightful cross from the left saw Harmanjot Singh swivel on the top of the box and smash a left foot volley in the back of the net which left the goalkeeper a mute spectator.

Four minutes later Denil Rebello tapped in from close range to make it 2-0 in favour of the Greens. And shortly thereafter, a third was added when Samuel Colaco met a delightful cross from Raja Rawat with a well placed header. Denil Rebello got his second of the evening a minute from time as he smashed the ball from close range to complete the rout.
