Salgaocar sign former Hibernian player Martin Scott

Martin Scott will play alongside another Scot Darryl Duffy in Salgoacar

Salgoacar have signed former Scottish U-21 attacking midfielder Martin Scott for the 2016 I-League season. The former Hibernian player has been offered a one-year deal with the Goan club and will join fellow Scotsman Malky Thomson, who was named the manager for the upcoming campaign.

Having made over 200 appearances at club level, this will be the first time Scott will move away from the country of his birth to play football. Scott began his youth career with Livingston then in the first division of Scottish football before graduating to the first team in 2005.

He went on to join second division side Ross County in 2006, a club where he would stay for the next five years scoring one goal in one of the famous wins in the club’s recent history in a semi-final win over Celtic. He played over 150 times for the Dingwall club attracting the interest of Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.

At the Edinborough club, Scott helped the club reach the Scottish Cup final in 2012. Due to a training bust-up with teammate Sean Welsh, Scott was loaned out to old club Ross County. A year later he returned to the club where it all started before moving to Raith Rovers on a one-year deal.

In an interview with Salgoacar’s in-house media team, Scott said he had a few offers from clubs based in the UK but when Salgoacar made the offer he was more than happy to sign. He said, “I am delighted to join Salgaocar FC a club which I have heard a lot of about from the coach Malky Thomson and a player I know very well who plays there, Darryl Duffy.”

“I had several offers to play in the UK this season but when the discussion to move across to India came up and that too at Salgaocar FC who have a long history in football in India and in the I-League, I was very keen. I would like to thank the coach and the management at Salgaocar FC for making this possible,” he added.

Salgaocar’s General Secretary, Adlear D’Cruz, welcomed the Scotsman to the club stating, “We welcome Martin to the Salgaocar family and wish him a successful tenure at the club.”

“I can’t wait to get there and join my team mates to commence pre-season. I am looking forward to giving my best and challenging for the title”, the 29-year-old concluded.
