Schalke admit they could lose Julian Draxler in summer transfer window
Schalke have admitted they will not be able to stop Julian Draxler joining Arsenal in the summer if the player desires to move on. The player has been linked with Arsenal for a considerable amount of time too.
They have said that his £37.3million release clause will need to be met if they are to sell, but should Arsenal or any other team meet that fee then their hands are tied as to where the winger’s future lies.
Arsenal had been keen to land Draxler in January and had sent a team of delegates out to negotiate with the German club, but no deal was agreed and the dynamic forward stayed put for the remainder of the season at least.
But with his release clause set to be activated in the summer, Schalke realise that there will come a time that they have to accept an offer, but have once again dug their heels in and claimed they will not accept anything lower than his release clause.
Manager Jens Keller, said, “I am very happy that Julian is still at Schalke for the second half of the season. But we cannot stop him from leaving when a club meets his buyout clause.
“That makes it hard for me to plan with him, because his future is not in Schalke’s hands.
“The Draxler situation in January was unnerving. It’s ridiculous when you don’t know as a coach whether such an important player will leave or stay.
“The unrest didn’t really affect the team though, as he was injured at the time.”
