Schalke hope to keep Arsenal target Julian Draxler for 2 more years
German International Julian Draxler has a release clause of £37.7 million in his contract and Schalke hope that it will keep away Premier League side Arsenal from buying him in the summer.
Draxler, whose contract runs till 2018, wanted to stay with the club till the summer to ensure that he makes the World Cup that is to be held in Brazil this year.
However, Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies hopes that the young attacker stays for atleast 1 or 2 years more to improve his development.
Tonnies said, “It would do Draxler good to spend another year or two with us but we know we’re not going to be able to keep a super-talented player like Julian at Schalke forever.
“If another club comes in for him, then we cannot block them. That would be unfair.
Tonnies also said that it will be unlikely that he will join Champions Bayern Munich, “I don’t think he wants to join Bayern Munich, though.”
If Arsenal do manage to sign Draxler then it will be their 2nd big money German signing in 2 years. Schalke are back in the top four and if they do qualify for the Champions league then Draxler might stay on for another year.
