Serie A Team of Week – 2

There were 32 goals scored in the Italian Serie A this gameweek. Juventus continued their top form after they hammered Udinese 4-1 at the Friuli while Napoli beat Fiorentina at the San Paolo and Roma continued their excellent form at the San Siro by beating Inter 3-1.  Allegri’s new Milan picked up their first win of the campaign thanks to Pazzini’s hattrick that beat Bologna 3-1.  Juventus are unbeaten for 41 games in the Serie- A.  Here’s a look at the team of the week.

Andrea Consigli [Atalanta] – Goalkeeper

The shotstopper from Atalanta was flawless in goal. After having saved Larrivey’s penalty initially, a few minutes later he stopped Conti to score from the spot.  Consigli’s dominance and perseverance in goal kept Atalanta in the lead. Although, he was stretched off after 68 minutes, he put up a strong performance and kept a clean sheet. Atalanta drew the game after Ekdal scored for Cagliari in the closing stages of the game

Abdoulaye Konko Faye [Lazio] –  Defender

Konko was one of the top players in Lazio’s 3-0 win over Palermo.  He was very impressive defensively and continuously threatened Palermo’s left flank when he attacked.  The former Juventus player put up a stunning performance to become one of the best players in this gameweek.
Daniele Gastaldello [Sampdoria] – Defender
For second week in the row,  Gastaldello has come out on top.  After being rock solid at the back against Milan, he was equally the same against Siena this week. Not only was he good in his defending but he scored the goal that was the difference in the end.
Nicolás Burdisso [A.S. Roma] – Defender
The former Inter Milan player stood tall like a colossus against the mighty Inter attack. It would’ve been agonising if Cassano’s equaliser would’ve gone down as a Burdisso own goal. The Argentine defender did a great job maintaining
the high line and organising the Roma defence very well.
Senad Lulic [Lazio] – Defender
Lazio have a great reputation of producing worldclass wing backs. Lulic is another talented wingback among the lot.  Coupled by good defending, he was very effective when going front as well. He gave one assist and put in a few key crosses that handed Lazio a 3-0 win over Palermo.
Marek Hamsik [Napoli] – Midfielder
Mazzarri’s key man of the season,  Hamsik has got adapted to playing at the centre of the park for Napoli. Despite the pitch being diabolical,  it never stopped the man from Slovakia to add to his tally of goals for the side from Naples. He looked very comfortable on the ball and his off the ball movement was very impressive as well. Hamsik scored the opener in Napoli’s 2-1 win over Montella’s resurrgent Fiorentina.
Andrea Pirlo [Juventus] – Midfielder
The ” Maestro ” of football, Andrea Pirlo is becoming better as he is getting older. He was absolutely beautiful to watch.  Every single time he got the ball, he dictated the game. After an initial 30 metre pass to Lichtsteiner which the Swissman failed to capitalise on, Pirlo was finally rewarded when he launched another aerial ball to Giovinco who was fouled inside the box. 1 assist and 5 key passes along with an accuracy of 85% makes him the top midfielder of the week.
Alessandro Florenzi [A.S. Roma] – Midfielder
Zeman’s trumpcard, Florenzi was handed his first Serie-A game of the season.  He looked very energetic and fearless in the crunch fixture against Inter.  He got on to the scoresheet by scoring a header bringing out the first goal of the game.
Miroslav Klose [Lazio] – Forward
An incredible performance by the German talisman that helped Lazio hammer Palermo 3-0 at home. Klose got on to the scoresheet twice and looked threatening on many occasions. The former Bayern Munich player still has the knack of scoring goals.
Giampaolo Pazzini [A.C. Milan] – Forward
The new A.C. Milan attacker put up a stunning performance to re- ignite his hopes of playing for the Italian national team. Pazzini opened the scoring for Milan by a composed spot kick and he went on to score a hattrick in the Rossoneri’s 3-1 win over Bologna.
Sebastian Giovinco [Juventus] – Forward
The ” Atomic Ant ”  rises to the expectations instilled in him by the Juve tasci.  He won a lot of fouls for the reigning Italian Champions and looked lively throughout the game. He won a penalty after he got at the end of an Andrea Pirlo long ball and scored a brace . The combination between Vucinic and Giovinco was lethal and effective as the team from Turin hammered Udinese 4-1 at the Friuli.
Juventus , Napoli and Lazio maintain a 100% record at the top of the table closely followed by Sampdoria who have won both their games but are a point behind as they started the season with -1 point. Milan seem to have come back strong after a home defeat last week whereas their rivals Inter lost again at San Siro to Zeman’s Roma. Pescara, Atalanta and Siena presently occupy the bottom 3 slots.
Serie-A will return on the 16th of September because of international fixtures. Stay tuned for the next gameweek as it will bring out more goals, more drama and more entertainment.
