Spanish football club Sevilla's midfielder Michael Krohn-Dehli will undergo surgery on Friday for a gruesome left kneecap injury and is expected to be out of action for six months.

The Danish international, who will turn 33 in June, sustained the injury in Thursday's first leg of Sevilla's Europa League semi-final clash with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, which ended in a 2-2 draw, reports Efe.

Sevilla's medical team said Krohn-Dehli dislocated his kneecap when he turned and fell during the match played in Lviv, Ukraine, adding that the injury was not the result of contact with an opposing footballer.

Although the precise length of absence will not be known until he begins rehabilitation, medical sources consulted by Efe said Krohn-Dehli would likely be out for around six months, meaning he would not return to the field until after the start of the 2016-2017 La Liga season.
