Should Real Madrid really pursue Luis Suarez?
Rumour has it that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has requested transfer talks with Real Madrid, as the Reds’ talismanic forward has expressed desire to join the Spanish giants. The Uruguayan international has just recently signed a new lucrative deal with the Reds’ which makes him the best paid footballer in the history of Liverpool. This new contract will reportedly keep him tied to the club until 2018.
However, the fundamental aspect of this is whether Real Madrid should really make a bid to land this prolific striker? We all know, the Meringues have a history of capturing all good players from around the globe, rather than providing an opportunity to the youngsters playing in their youth team. It is this very fact which has drawn criticism their way by many.
Ronaldo da Lima, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and the most recent Gareth Bale, are some of the marquee signings done by Real Madrid in the past and spending an estimated 1 billion dollars in the process of glorifying the club. The mission ‘La Decima’ being the prime issue, so far Real Madrid have failed in their noble quest, but the prospects seem more likely this time around.
Considering the current Madrid squad, they do not actually need to sign a new player. Not for atleast another season, provided no good player departs. The attacking trio renowned as the ‘BBC’ trio, are well dovetailed and ruthless in front of the goal. With the likes of Benzema, Morata and Jese providing umpteen striking options, Los Blancos should prohibit themselves from making a superfluous signing in the form of Suarez.
The Reds’ striker has notched-up 30 goals this season in 31 appearances and has won several accolades for his performances. Naturally, this has espied Spanish giants and compelled to make a bid. Remember, it is yet to be confirmed.
After a poor season last year and the departure of several formidable players such as Ozil, Higuain, Kaka, Callejon and Ricardo Carvalho, Real Madrid made amends by signing Gareth Bale, Isco, Carvajal and Illaramendi and have come to fruition by winning the Copa Del Rey title and remain firmly on-course to win an unprecedented ‘treble’. In a retrospect, Madrid boasts a host of talented players and really don’t need to go the extra mile in the hunt for this opulent striker.
On the other hand, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been wax lyrical about Suarez’s ‘SAS’ partnership with another blazing striker, Daniel Sturridge. Together, they have stockpiled a whooping 50 goals in the league, more than what 11 different teams in EPL have scored as a whole. Now thats really flabbergasting.
Considering such benumbing facts about the duo, Rodgers really wouldn’t approve of losing any one of his prized asset, especially after getting within touching distance of first ever Premier League title triumph. It would wise of Liverpool to reject any bid made for the Reds’ hero.
And as far as investing is concerned, if Real Madrid is resolute enough to loosen their purse strings this summer, it would be sagacious of them to land a defender, taking into account the number of goals they’ve conceded in the league. Being lethal at the fore-front was never an issue for the Spanish giants but woes at the back are one. President Florentino Perez should be witty enough to figure this out and take a plausible decision, come this summer transfer market.
