Silvestre signs for Inter Milan, Forlan exits

ROME (AFP) –

Matias Silvestre will replace Juventus-bound Brazilian Lucio at Inter

Argentinian defender Matias Silvestre (then of Catania) celebrates after scoring against Lazio during a Serie A match in Rome in November 2010. Silvestre on Friday signed for Serie A rivals Inter Milan in a deal worth an estimated 8 million euros.

Palermo’s Argentina defender Matias Silvestre on Friday signed for Serie A rivals Inter Milan in a deal worth an estimated eight million euros.

The 27-year-old will replace Juventus-bound Brazilian Lucio in northern Italy.

Silvestre is reported to have signed a two-year loan deal worth twomillion euros with an option to buy fixed at six million euros, according to the Italian press.

He becomes Inter’s third recruit for the new season after Argentina striker Rodrigo Palacio (Genoa) and Slovenia goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

Meanwhile, Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan is on his way out of the San Siro after signing a three-year deal with Brazilian side Internacional.

“Diego Forlan is a player of Internacional,” read the Brazilian club’s website.

Forlan, who was under contract with the Italian giants until 2013, reached an agreement with Inter to terminate the deal Friday morning, according to ANSA.

The 33-year-old struggled in his only season in Italy after joining from Atletico Madrid last summer, as he tallied just two goals in 20 appearances.
