Sir Alex Ferguson Not Satisfied
Old Trafford manager Sir Alex Ferguson was not pleased with his team´s finishing following their narrow 1–0 defeat to David Moyes´s Everton at Goodison Park on Monday. It was the first opening day defeat for Manchester United since The Red Devils lost 1–0 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the first game of the 2004–2005 season.
Netherlands international striker Robin van Persie eventually emerged from the anonymity of the substitutes´ bench in the 68th minute of the derby encounter against Everton but the trigger happy marksman could not make any sort of impact on the match. According to Sir Alex Ferguson, his Manchester United team failed to create any decent opportunities for the £22 million summer signing from Arsenal. Sir Alex Ferguson: “We had the possession and made some great openings without actually finishing it. We were a bit disappointing in terms of finishing off the approach play we had. We played around Robin van Persie too much, we did not show enough penetration and, with him in your team, you know that you want to use his ability against centre backs in situations he is very good at.”
