SK Amaze: Bordeaux's Diego Rolan scores the goal of the weekend

Even he can’t believe that he managed to score with that!

Ligue 1 is a place on immense fantasy. But so few of us get captivated by it!

It’s not really our fault as the league often flies under the radar of the big four leagues in Europe (Spain, England, Germany, and Italy), especially now that Zlatan has packed his skills, his ego, and that immense personality, and moved on to England.

But Ligue 1 often turns up with some of the most amazing footballing moments on the continent, and this weekend they came up with what was surely the best goal scored! If I’ve to say that on a weekend Liverpool hammered in 6 superb goals, Pogba scored an absolute screamer, Eden Hazard was on song and Messi magic was in full flow, you know it’s something special.

Drawing 1-1 with bottom anchored Lorient, Bordeaux needed some magic from someplace.

Cometh the hour, Cometh the man.

The man in question was 23-year old Uruguayan starlet Diego Rolan. He is a decent goal scorer – he had 15 goals in 28 appearances in 14/15; and 7 in 15/16; this season he has started with 3 in 9.  He’s played 22 times for his national team and scored thrice – and he’ll be looking forward to becoming a mainstay for La Celeste in the coming years

Lorient were holding firm till Maxime Poundje bombarded forward and whipped a cross into the box. It looked for all the world a rubbish cross – it was way behind Rolan and there was no way he could have done anything with it! Or so we all have thought.

But on the run, the Uruguayan twists his body and acrobatically hooks his leg backward before whipping it back forward – the ball zooms into the net with a stunned looking Lorient keeper watching the ball loop in awe.

Watch the goal in all its glory!

With that win – Bordeaux held on for the 2-1 win and are now currently 8th with 19 points (the same as Lyon and Toulouse). Nice continue to lead the league with 29 points (despite suffering their first reverse of the season this weekend). Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain (on 26 points each) make up the top 3 – in the most competitive start to the French League for ages.
