Slovakia vs Ukraine Head-to-Head stats and numbers you need to know before Match 19 of UEFA Euro 2024

Slovakia and Ukraine return to action in UEFA Euro 2024 when they lock horns at Düsseldorf Arena on Friday. Slovakia picked up a dream start to the tournament as they stunned Belgium to a 1-0 victory in their Group E opener on Monday.

Ivan Schranz’s seventh-minute strike was enough to separate the two sides as a star-studded Belgian side were on the receiving end of the first major upset of the European Championship.

Slovakia have now won 10 of their last 14 matches across all competitions and head coach Francesco Calzona will hope his side can keep the juggernaut rolling as they look to book their spot in the knockout stages this weekend.

Ukraine, on the other hand, will head into Friday’s clash in desperate need of a positive result following their humbling 3-0 defeat against Romania in the group curtain-raiser on Monday.

A 29th-minute curler from skipper Nicolae Stanciu put Romania on the front foot before Razvan Marin and Denis Dragus scored quick-fire goals in the second half to cap off a superb team display.

Serhiy Rebrov’s men have now gone 12 back-to-back matches without a clean sheet in the European Championship, a team record they will set out to end this weekend as they look to find their feet.

However, Ukraine will need to be at their best against Slovakia, who have kept three clean sheets in their last three matches while scoring nine goals since a 1-1 friendly stalemate with Norway in March.

Slovakia vs Ukraine Head-to-Head stats

With three wins from the last eight encounters between the sides, Ukraine hold a slight upper hand in the history of this fixture. Slovenia have picked up one fewer win in that time, while the spoils have been shared on three occasions.

The last meeting between the two nations came in the UEFA Nations League in November 2018, when Slovakia stormed to a 4-1 victory at the Štadión Antona Malatinskeho.

In that encounter, Albert Rusnák, Kucka, Adam Zrelak and Róbert Mak were all on target for the Falcons, with Yevhen Konoplyanka netting Ukraine’s only goal in the 47th minute.

Slovakia are unbeaten in their last four matches across all competitions, claiming three wins and one draw. They have also won each of their last four competitive matches since a narrow 3-2 loss against Portugal in the Euro qualifiers in October 2023.

Ukraine are unbeaten in five of their last six competitive outings since October 2023, picking up four wins and one draw while scoring nine goals and keeping two clean sheets in that time.

However, Rebrov's men have lost their last two European Championship matches by three or more goals, following a 4-0 quarter-final defeat to England three years ago.

Despite failing to register a shot on target in the opening game against Romania, Artem Dovbyk will be one to watch on Friday. The 26-year-old striker clinched the 2023-24 La Liga Golden Boot after scoring 24 goals in 36 games for Girona.
