Slovenia vs Serbia Head-to-Head stats and numbers you need to know before Match 16 of UEFA Euro 2024

Slovenia and Serbia square off at Allianz Arena in their second group-stage game at UEFA Euro 2024. Slovenia turned in a fine show of fighting spirit in the Group C curtain-raiser as they came from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against Denmark.

Christian Eriksen struck in the 17th minute to put Denmark in front but veteran defender Erik Janza netted in the 77th minute to force a share of the spoils.

Head coach Matjaž Kek will hope his side can take the positives from their opening-day draw and pick up a potentially pivotal victory in their quest to reach the knockout stages.

Serbia, on the other hand, were denied a dream start to the European Championship as they fell to a 1-0 loss against England last Sunday. Real Madrid man Jude Bellingham grabbed the headlines at the Veltins Arena as he netted the only goal of the game in the 12th minute to hand the Three Lions all three points.

With the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, Sergej Milinković-Savic and Aleksandar Mitrovic spearheading the Eagles’ attack, head coach Dragan Stojkovic will hope his side can bounce back from their opening-day defeat and get their campaign up and running.

Slovenia and Serbia Head-to-Head stats

The results have been split right down the middle in the history of this fixture, with Slovenia and Serbia claiming one win each in their previous 10 encounters.

Their last meeting came in the UEFA Nations League back in June 2022, when both sides played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Stožice Stadium.

Andrija Živković and Aleksandar Mitrovic scored first-half goals to put Serbia in front but goals from Adam Gnezda Čerin and Benjamin Sesko in a five-minute spell saw Slovenia fight back to salvage a point.

Slovenia vs Serbia Numbers you need to know before their UEFA Euro 2024 encounter

The only meeting between Slovenia and Serbia (then FR Yugoslavia) in the European Championship came in Euro 2000, when they played out a 3-3 stalemate.

In that encounter, Slovenia bottled a three-goal lead as they conceded three goals within six minutes in the second half to settle for a disappointing draw.

Serbia have won just two of their last seven matches across all competitions while losing four and claiming one draw since November 2023.

Slovenia are unbeaten in their last seven matches, picking up four wins and three draws, and have lost just one of their last 13 outings since June 2023.

Sesko finished with seven goal involvements in the Euro qualifiers — the highest of any Slovenian player — and the RB Leipzig man will be one to watch.

Mitrovic, who finished with five goals in the qualifiers, has scored in his two previous games against Slovenia. With 58 goals in 92 caps, the Al-Hilal striker is the Eagles’ all-time leading goalscorer.
