Sneijder Snubs Man City, Man Utd Adamant
The Wesley Sneijder saga took another turn today, amidst reports saying that the midfield star has snubbed Man City, as he prefers to move to the red side of Manchester. The Red Devils are meanwhile not willing to pay 40 Million Euros for the playmaker, if Sneijder does not go back on his demands of 220k/week.
As things stand now, Man Utd value him at 27.5 Million Euros, if they were to pay him a salary of over 200k/week. Inter, meanwhile want 40 Million Euros for the Dutch star, though they might settle for a little over 35 Millions, if his agent is to be trusted.
Nike, who sponsors both Inter and Manchester United, is also thought to be in the mix, as the transfer would open up a whole lot of sponsorship opportunities, and considering that the deal with Man Utd runs out in 2014, would want to make the most out of it. According to reports, Nike has offered to pay up the rest of the money for Sneijder’s move to Man Utd, though how it pans out is still to be seen. It is also doubtful if either of the sides would agree to such a deal.
Previously, a tweet by Federico Macheda, Man Utd’s Italian striker had set the cat amongst the pigeons, and a few tabloids had even come out with the story that Sneijder had signed for the Red Devils. But in the end, nothing materialised.
Sneijder camp has been quiet about the whole issue so far, while Inter holds its position that the club will not sell its star below its valuation. David Gill, Chief Executive of Man Utd had said two days ago that both Nasri and Sneijder deals are dead, but with Sneijder openly or otherwise indicating that there is only one preferred destination, may sway Man Utd board’s decision, with a spot in the midfield yet to be filled and Sir Alex Ferguson rating the player highly.
