Sourav Ganguly to attend 2014 FPAI Awards
Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is set to be the star attraction of the 2014 FPAI (Football Players Association of India) Awards night.
The event will take place on April 29 and Ganguly, who is now one of the co-owners of the Kolkata franchise of the Indian Super League, is expected to attend it.
An FPAI official said, “Sourav has been invited and he is expected to attend the ceremony.”
This will be the sixth edition of FPAI’s annual awards night and for the third time it is being held in Kolkata. In 2011, tennis great Leander Paes was the star attraction while last year Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan was one of the key guests.
Awards in categories like Best Indian Player, Best Young Player, Best Foreigner, Best Coach will be given out on based on votes of I-League players while there is also the Fans’ Player of the Year accolade where supporters have their say.
The nominees for the Fans’ Player of the Year award are Karanjit Singh (Salgaocar), Arnab Mondal (East Bengal), Beikhokhei Beingaichho (Bengaluru FC), Balwant Singh (Churchill Brothers), Katsumi Yusa (Mohun Bagan), Boithang Haokip (Shillong Lajong FC), Victorino Fernandes (Sporting Clube de Goa) and Douhou Pierre (Pune FC).
Voting can be done here and it closes on April 27.
