Southampton announce EA Sports Partnership

Southampton have joined a number of European clubs, including FC Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, in signing a one-year deal to partner video game developer EA Sports, according to SportsPro.

The partnership was announced on Friday and will see Saints defender Maya Yoshida feature on the cover of EA Sports’ Japanese release of the upcoming FIFA 14 alongside Lionel Messi and fellow Japanese countryman Makoto Hasebe of VFL Wolfsburg.

The partnership covers the upcoming Premier League season and will see EA Sports as the designated official football video gaming partner for the club.

The deal will mean that fans of the south coast club can compete with each other at the EA Sports Dugout in St. Mary’s Stadium throughout the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season.

Saints fans will also be able to download a free special edition of the FIFA 14 cover, which will feature three of the team’s stars when the game is released in the UK on 27th September.

Jamie McKinlay, vice-president of marketing at EA Sports, said of Southampton: “They showed last year that they belong in the Premier League, and we see it as a natural progression to work on a far closer one-to-one basis with the club to provide exciting digital content and engagement for the fans.”
