Rumour: Spurs could sell Roberto Soldado this summer

Roberto Soldado: Seemed like a fish out of water in the EPL

Tottenham are set to keep Emmanuel Adebayor but are willing to sell the hugely disappointing Roberto Soldado, according to Goal.

Spurs intend to build their attack around Adebayor next season, no matter which manager comes in to replace Tim Sherwood who was sacked just days after the Premier League season ended.

Soldado, who cost Spurs £26 million last summer, was a terrible signing for the north London club and scored just two goals from open play in the Premier League. He scored a total of six goals but four of those came from the penalty spot and Soldado lost his Tottenham place to Harry Kane at the end of the season.

The Spanish striker struggled straight away and didn’t seem to fit into Tottenham’s system while also finding it difficult to come to terms with the speed and physicality of the Premier League.

His wages of £80,000-per-week are too much for such an under-performing player for Spurs to keep at the club so the north Londoners are open to offers.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is keen to recoup as much of the original £26m he paid for Soldado but that could be extremely difficult given his performances and lack of goals.

Adebayor flourished under Sherwood in the second half of the season after being frozen out under Andre Villas-Boas. The Togo striker ended up as the club’s top scorer with 11 goals in the top flight.

He is expected to be kept on at the club for the foreseeable future.
