Dele Alli wishes the Indian Olympic team luck in Rio

Tottenham Hotspur do not have a wide fan base in India with only about 10 or so fans in the country, but England midfielder, Dele Alli, took it on himself to wish the Indian Olympic Team luck on their ventures in Rio.

The 21-year-old rising star posed for a picture of himself holding the Indian flag, along with a good luck message on the Tottenham Hotspur Facebook page. The message read, “All the best to the Indian Olympic Team in Rio 2016. Chak de India “

This is the second instance this year of Alli looking out for the Indians. Earlier in the year, he had posted a video of himself wishing luck to the Indian school kids taking up their board exams.

Alli, will not be a part of the Olympic Games as Great Britain did not enter a football team for the Games.

The Rio Olympics gets underway this evening, after a thrilling Opening Ceremony. Several Indians are in action across a number of events. The highlight of the day, in terms of the Indian perspective, would have to be the doubles paring of Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna who take on Polish duo Marcin Matkowski and Lukasz Kubot in the Men’s Doubles. The event is expected to get underway at 7:30PM IST.

In other action, India’s Jitu Rai will take part in the qualification rounds of the Men’s 10m air pistol event at 9:30 PM, while Ayonika Paul will be a part of the qualification rounds for the Women’s 10m air rifle event, at 5:00PM.

India’s sporting queen, Sania Mirza, gets her campaign underway in the Women’s doubles, partnering with P Thombare to take on Chinese pair Peng and Zhang.  This will be India’s largest ever contingent sent to the Olympic Games and expectations are extremely high.
