Stan Kroenke - "Liverpool wouldn't have let Suarez leave.... Wenger will stay on at Arsenal"

Arsenal‘s majority stakeholder, Stan Kroenke, is of the opinion that Arsene Wenger won’t leave after this season is over. He believes that Wenger will renew his contract and deliver the long-due Barclays Premier League title to the Emirates.

Arsene’s contract expires in the summer and with a trophy drought that’s well into it’s ninth season, Wenger has more than one reason to leave. But Arsenal chief Kroenke wants Arsene Wenger to stay on at the club.

Speaking with The Daily Telegraph, Kroenke said, “There’s no one I feel more strongly about and I think he is doing a great job. We have been very supportive, we have never wavered, we are proud of him, proud of the club, the way the club is run and how it holds itself out to the world.”

“Arsene knows how we feel, what our philosophy is, what we want to do and I feel like we are totally aligned. I think he wants to do it the exact same way as we do.”

After splashing the cash and signing Mesut Ozil, Kroenke made it clear that funds would be available to increase the strength of the squad whenever required. He also cleared the air about him having any hand in any of the decisions taken by Arsene Wenger.

Kroenke said: “I really enjoy Arsene – very smart, very intelligent. He has an absolute view on how he runs that team and the club. He has earned that right. Don’t look for me to interfere with that. I have learnt over the years that sometimes owners try do that and it is not so good.”

“We’ve always said that there are resources available. There are guys who say that we should push Arsene harder to spend. That’s fair enough – there are always lots of opinions but Arsene is an independent thinker and planner. He works very hard at it and has a wonderful record. He was trained in economics, my undergraduate study was in economics.”

Stan Kroenke spoke about Luis Suarez too and revealed that when he met with Liverpool owner, John W. Henry, the latter did not say anything about the possible sale of Suarez.

On one hand, while Brendan Rodgers showed his distaste for the £40 million plus £1 bid made by the Gunners for Suarez, John Henry went one step forward on the other, by tweeting – “What do you think they’re smoking over there at Emirates?”

Kroenke, however, was rather adamant that Suarez wasn’t going to leave Anfield.

“Look, Arsene (Wenger) had a view, our team had a view, they had a view and their view was, he wasn’t going anywhere,” Kroenke said.

“I never saw them waver from it. I guess at some level there is a number that gets anybody out of anywhere but there was nothing within the realm of what we knew about that could have got him out of there.”

With Kroenke wanting Arsene Wenger to stay on board and willing to splurge cash whenever needed, the Gunners definitely look poised for a bright future.
