Stat: Tottenham would have had more Premier League points without Harry Kane!

Harry Kane is Tottenham’s top scorer this season

He is considered Tottenham’s talisman and England’s great next hope. However, an unbelievable statistic is now showing that Tottenham actually might have had more points in the Premier League without Harry Kane!

The Tottenham striker’s goals helped win 24 points for Tottenham last season and there have been fears that Tottenham might be relying too much on their star forward for inspiration. However, while there is no doubting Harry Kane’s importance to the side, his legion of fans might be shocked to discover the ‘truth’ about his goal scoring impact this season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side would actually have had more points if the England striker hadn’t found the net at either end.

While the talented forward has scored 15 goals at the right end of the pitch, his goals have only contributed one extra point for the North London side. Kane has scored predominantly in heavy wins, beginning with the stunning 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City in late Spetember.

His 15 goals include a hat-trick against Bournemouth and a double against West Ham. Also included in his tally for the season are doubles both home and away against Norwich. However, in all the four matches, Tottenham would have won even without Kane’s goals.

Stats show Harry Kane’s only decisive contribution this term was against North London rivals Arsenal

The only Premier League match where the Tottenham’s forward goal has had a clear influence on the result for Tottenham was his opener against the Gunners in the 1-1 draw held in November. While that goal earned Spurs one point it didn’t quite make up for the two points his own goal at Swansea cost his team.

This only goes to show stats do not always tell the full story and a player’s contribution to the team cannot always be decided only by hard numbers.

Kane’s goals in 2015/2016:

OpponentScorelineNumber of Kane goalsPoint Swing
Manchester City (H)4-110
Bournemouth (A)5-130
Aston VIlla (H)3-110
Arsenal (A)1-111
West Ham (H)4-120
Southampton (A)2-010
Norwich (H)3-020
Sunderland (H)4-110
Crystal Palace (A)3-110
Norwich (A)3-020

The own goal against Swansea cost Tottenham 2 points and from the above table we can see that if we only take stats, Tottenham would have had one point more in the Premier League.

Shocking but true.
