Steven Gerrard would be welcomed into the Brazil squad if he was Brazilian: Carlos Alberto Parreira
Carlos Alberto Parreira has admitted that there is a lot of admiration for Steven Gerrard in Brazil and that he would be welcomed into the Samba Boys’ squad if he was of Brazilian nationality.
Parreira is currently the technical director for the Brazilian national team and is in the awkward situation of seeing Gerrard adapt his game to take on the holding role at Liverpool, leaving Lucas Leiva short of game time ahead of this summer’s World Cup and putting his selection in doubt.
But Parreira is full of admiration for Gerrard and can fully understand why he is such a big part of both the Liverpool and England squads, feeling the Reds’ captain could have a big part to play come the summer showcase in Brazil.
The World Cup winning coach told reporters, “I like Gerrard very much, he is for me a wonderful player. He would play in the Brazil team, yes.
“The Brazilian players love him, respect him.”
Gerrard looks set to captain England at the World Cup in June barring any dream-crushing injuries that frequently blight the build up to a major tournament for the Three Lions and could yet go to Brazil having won his first ever league title, with Liverpool still going strong in the Premier League
