Suarez is our Messi, says Rodgers

Liverpool‘s boss Brendan Rodgers describes Luis Suarez as his side’s equivalent of Lionel Messi after the striker’s delightful display against Sunderland.

The Uruguayan forward was in superb form, grabbing two goals and setting up the other for Raheem Sterling, with Martin O`Neill`s side guilty of some sloppy defending throughout.

He plays the false nine role likeMessi does for Barcelona where he moves freely and others have to get in behind him to penetrate,” Rodgers told Sky.

“‘He gives us power and presence at the top end of the field. The biggest thing is his hunger. We are bringing in a player who knows he has to perform as he will be playing with one of the biggest clubs in the world.” Rodgers said.

Suarez has now netted 15 goals and three assists in the 2012-13 Premier League season and has the highest average match rating from any player in the EPL this year, according to statistics website Whoscored.com.
