Suarez takes a dig at Chile after Uruguay's Copa America exit

Suarez has come out in support of Uruguay after the defending champions exited the tournament

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez may be banned from taking part in the Copa America after his biting incident in the 2014 World Cup, but that hasn’t stopped him from having a go at Chile, after his side’s 1-0 loss eliminated them from the tournament. Suarez was also on the defensive about Uruguay’s performance, which saw La Celeste end the knockout clash with nine men after Cavani and Fucile were shown red.

Suarez wrote this on his Facebook page (translated):

"First, I would like to thank all my colleagues who gave their all in the Copa and always give their all for this beautiful shirt. You leave me without words. Thanks and so proud of Uruguay!!!

To those who say Uruguay played poorly, etc. let me remind them that Uruguay has won Copa America 15 times. So to those who complain, they should look at their own country, which has no title. Let's go Uruguay, let's go!"

Fucile was given his marching orders towards the end of the game, but most of the post-match commotion was focused on Edinson Cavan’s dismissal. Midway through the second half, the striker lightly slapped Gonzalo Jara in response to a cheeky poke in the behind by the Chilean. But the referee deemed Cavani’s actions intolerable and sent him off, sparing Jara, who had fallen to the ground with his hand on his face.

South American officials have opened an investigation into the actions of Gonzalo Jara, who has been banned for the rest of the tournament.

Suarez has had his own beef with Jara, dating back to a World Cup qualifier in 2013, when Jara was alleged to have poked Luis Suarez’s groin in a World Cup qualifier in 2013, which led to Suarez retaliating with a punch.

Uruguay have missed their most prolific goalscorer, and have managed only 2 goals in 4 matches in the tournament. Luis Suarez had received a nine-match suspension from international matches, but will be able to join up with his team-mates in time for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Hola a todos. Primero que nada agradecer a todos los compañeros que dejaron todo en la copa y siempre dejando todo por...
