Summer Transfer Window: Milan's biggest mistake
Isn’t it astonishing when you come to know that a particular football club sold the whole of its first team? One such club did the same mistake and now is paying for their ‘sin’. Yes, you guessed it right. Its none other than Italian giants – AC Milan.
All of their star players – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva, Antonio Cassano, Mark van Bommel, Alessandro Nesta, Gianluca Zambrotta, Clarence Seedorf, Alberto Aquilani, Gennaro Gattuso – said goodbye to the San Siro in the summer and moved to clubs like PSG (Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva), PSV Eindhoven (Mark van Bommel), Montreal Impact (Alessandro Nesta), FC Sion (Gennaro Gattuso), Botafogo (Clarence Seedorf) and many more, and maybe, that is the reason why they are currently in 7th position on the table.
It is also correct that AC Milan were unable to defeat FC Barcelona in the quarter final of UEFA Champions League last season, when all their star players were present at the club. But, it is also true that because of these huge players, Milan was able to finish in 2nd place last season and qualify for the UEFA Champions League’s 58th edition. But, this time, it seems nearly impossible.
With Milan’s big players not at the club, the club is struggling this season. Some players are improving this time and one young Italian, Stephan El Shaarawy, has been showing his skills from the beginning of the season. Having netted 14 goals for the club in the league this season (currently the top goalscorer) and 16 goals in all competitions, El Shaarawy has done well, but has to do a lot of hard work if he wants his team to win the title and qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. Other players such as Riccardo Montolivo, Traore, and Taiwo have shown great play till now and maybe, they will show it for the season too. If they continue their form like this, no doubt they can take the title very easily this time and perhaps for many more seasons to come.
And now, with Pato also out of AC Milan as he has moved to Corinthians in a deal worth €15,000,000, the attacking unit is a bit weak as El Shaarawy and Robinho are only left as main strikers, though Pazzini is also available. The two have to put their best efforts to push Milan into the top 3.
This is the new era of Milan, as many veteran players have left the club. Now, these new players have to prove that they can also lead Milan to success.
