Super Cup 2018: Qualifier 3, Mumbai City FC vs Indian Arrows, Player Ratings
Super Cup 2018 action carried on in Odisha today as Mumbai City FC faced off against the young guns from the I-League, the Indian Arrows at the Kalinga Sports Complex in Bhubaneshwar.
Mumbai City FC had a poor Indian Super League season after topping the league last year and only managed to finish on the seventh spot. Indian Arrows, who played in the I-League finished on the last position on the table but impressed one and all with their determination and fearlessness against the top sides in the I-League.
Mumbai City FC emerged triumphant at the end with a 2-1 win after a tough fight from the young Indian Arrows. Rahul Kannoly had given the Arrows the lead in the second half against the run of play shocking the Mumbai side.
The Islanders kept the pressure on the young team and were rewarded with a penalty that was converted by Emana to put the game into extra time. Everton Santos scored the match-winner in the first half of the extra time as Mumbai entered the main draw of the Super Cup.
Mumbai City FC
Amrinder Singh (6.5/10) - The Indian international keeper was tested just once in the first half during a Sanjeev Stalin freekick in an otherwise quiet first half. He was called into action by Rahul Kannoly on a couple of occasions in the second half and conceded a goal after a mishap by Lucian Goian.
Marcio Rozario (6.5/10) - The Brazilian defender played on the left side of the Mumbai City FC three-man defence and, was solid whenever called into action. He dealt with the pace of the Arrows wingers well and made many vital interceptions at the back.
Lucian Goian (6/10) - The Mumbai captain played at the top of the defence and, was strong in his tackles at the back. He was beaten by Rahul KP for the first goal of the match but recovered well to provide the assist for the winning goal in extra time.
Raju Gaekwad (5.5/10) - The defender who played on the right side for Mumbai had a relatively poor game as he was caught on multiple occasions by the Arrows wing players.
Sanju Pradhan (6.5/10) - The right wing-back for Mumbai made a lot of threatening runs on the flank providing support to the attackers ahead. He put in good crosses into the box for Balwant Singh & co to attack.
Sehnaj Singh (6/10) - The tough-tackling midfielder played just in front of the defence as he played the sweeping role for the Mumbai side. He was his usual no-nonsense self in tackling.
Sahil Tavora (6.5/10) - The Goa-born player played as the wing-back today and made a lot of overlapping runs into the box from the left flank.
Achille Emana (7.5/10) - The Cameroonian midfielder played the No.10 role for Mumbai as he orchestrated the attacks from the center of the park. He scored the spot-kick to equalize for the Mumbai side after the Arrows had taken a surprise lead.
Leo Costa (6/10) - The Brazilian played alongside Emana at the top of the box and had a lot of long-range shots at the Arrows goal. He played in good balls for the wingers on both sides using his ball distribution skills well.
Balwant Singh (5.5/10) - The Indian international striker had a quiet evening in attack as he did not trouble the Arrows goal much and was kept in check by the young defenders.
Everton Santos (8/10) - The attacker played all across the midfield as he kept making good runs into the box and was a constant threat to the Arrows. He got the match-winning goal for Mumbai when he scored in the first half of the extra time.
Substitutes:
Pranjal Bhumij (4.5/10) - The youngster came on to replace Sanju Pradhan in the midfield as Guimaraes introduced fresh legs in the attack for the Islanders.
Abinash Ruidas (4/10) - The former East Bengal man came on to replace Tavora on the left flank in the 84th minute of the match.
Zakeer Mundampara (N/A) - The Kerala man came on in the 120th minute of the match as Mumbai City FC ran down the clock having taken the lead in the match.
