Switzerland vs Spain Prediction and Betting Tips | 8th September 2024

European champions Spain will resume UEFA Nations League action as they hit the road to take on familiar foes Switzerland at the Stade de Geneve on Sunday. Spain kicked off their Nations League campaign with a goalless draw against Serbia on Thursday.

Switzerland suffered a forgettable start to proceedings in the Nations League, falling to a 2-0 loss to Denmark on Matchday 1. Only nine men were left on the field for the Rossocrociati when the final whistle was blown as Nico Elvedi and Granit Xhaka were sent off in the second half with the former shown a direct red.

Patrick Dorgu and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg got on the scoresheet for the Danes to get their Nations League campaign off to a positive start. Switzerland were previously drawn in the same group as Spain in the 2022-23 Nations League and actually beat them 2-1 in September 2022.

Spain's return to competitive football action after their triumphant run at the 2024 Euros turned out to be lacklustre. They were held to a goalless draw by the Serbs but La Roja's head coach can't be losing his sleep over it.

Spain were the better side and once their players pick up the pace, few teams are as indomitable as they are right now. The Spaniards are also the defending Nations League champions and will look to produce a more clinical performance against Switzerland on Sunday than they did in midweek.

Switzerland vs Spain Prediction

Switzerland will miss Xhaka but they have enough firepower to stretch the Spanish defence. Spain are yet to hit their stride in the competition as well and hence, this should make for an entertaining encounter. But Spain are likely to pick up a narrow win here.
