Terry-ble news for John, as Chelsea skipper handed ban

Chelsea skipper John Terry has been handed a four-match ban and fined £220,000 after being found guilty at the disciplinary hearing today.

The Blues’ skipper announced his retirement earlier in the week, suggesting that the FA’s decision to pursue charges on him had made his position in the national side untenable.

Terry’s solicitors said that the skipper will wait for ‘detailed written reasons of decision and consider them carefully before deciding whether to appeal’.

An FA statement said an independent regulatory commisssion had issued a suspension for a period of four matches and a fine of £220,000 ($356,722, 276,000 euros) pending appeal.

Former England skipper Terry, 31, was cleared of racially abusing Ferdinand in a criminal case in July over allegations relating to the same incident, which took place during a match in October.
