Chelsea captain John Terry returned to action after a two-month injury lay-off with a first-half run-out for the club’s Under-21 side on Thursday.

The 32-year-old former England centre-back had not played for the European champions since a 1-1 draw with Liverpool on November 11 following a collision with Luis Suarez.

But he came through 45 minutes of the 2-0 win over Fulham Under-21s unscathed in what will be a major boost for watching manager Rafael Benitez.
