What's the story?

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has informed that the doors at Eredivisie side are always open for Luis Suarez if he ever chooses to return to his former club from Barcelona.

In case you didn't know...

The 32-year-old Uruguayan sharpshooter is not getting any younger but continues to play a pivotal role up front for Barcelona. With 15 goals and 5 assists in the LaLiga, it goes without saying that Suarez is one of the best goalscorers in the league this season.

His impact was felt when Leo Messi was injured in the first half of the season as Luis Suarez's exploits included a hat-trick against bitter rivals Real Madrid in their 5-1 victory.

Before moving to Liverpool, the Uruguayan striker enjoyed four productive seasons at Amsterdam with the Eredivisie giants between 2007 and 2011 which garnered wide interest for him throughout the world.

Luis Suarez's 111 goals in 158 appearances for Ajax shows his mammoth impact during that spell, resulting in trophies in his last season with the club.

The heart of the matter

Ajax's Sporting director, Marc Overmars, claimed that he would be welcome Luis Suarez back from Barcelona if the striker ever wants a move.

Speaking to VTV Uruguay as quoted by Spanish media outlet Sport, " Suarez can come back to Ajax. The doors are always open here. I hope they replace him [laughs]. No, I'm joking (...) but if he was really interested in coming back to Ajax, I would go to Barcelona the next day to speak with him."
Overmars added: "I think one of Suarez's biggest qualities is his mentality. The power to win, to score goals..he is one of the best in the world."

What's next?

Despite not opening his mark at the Champions League this season, Suarez is set to play a pivotal role if Barcelona hopes to win trophies at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Barcelona faces a stern test in the next weeks. They face Lyon in the Champions League and Sevilla in the La Liga before facing Real Madrid twice successively.
