The Footy Mumble: Fergie meets his match, referee accused of racism!
Margaret, an 80 year old granny from Rochdale in the U.K has asked Sir Alex Ferguson to stop using the diamond formation.
Ferguson says the tactic may be revolutionary for United, but the 80 year old, who claims she has supported United longer than the Scot, says the tactic is stupid.
Margaret gave this opinion during a call-in show for the club’s official channel MUTV. She added, “I don’t like it. It’s going to give me a heart attack and I’m 80.”
She went on, saying, “I have an opinion and it’s certainly not the diamond. They don’t know what to do — they run around like lost sheep.”
Mark Clattenburg, already in the centre of controversy for his dubious sending off of Torres in the Man United-Chelsea match, finds himself in the midst of another controversy, after Chelsea claimed he abused two of their players.
One of the complaints is, reportedly, of racial abuse.
The two players are thought to be John Obi Mikel and Juan Mata.
“We have a lodged a complaint to the Premier League match delegate with regards to inappropriate language used by the referee and directed at two of our players in two separate incidents during today’s match,” said a Chelsea spokesman.
Professional Game Match Officials (PGMO) later issued a statement, saying, “PGMO is aware of the allegations and they are being treated with the utmost seriousness. “Mark will co-operate fully and welcomes the opportunity for the facts to be established.”
Here’s a video of Mikel’s booking:
QPR manager Mark Hughes is reportedly on the verge of being sacked at Loftus Road, with next weekend’s match against Reading allegedly his last chance to save it.
Bookies have given the incumbent manager a 50-50 chance of staying on as manager.
Tony Fernandes later tweeted, saying, “I honestly believe we have one of the best managers in the premier league. And we are in for the long term.”
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway, meanwhile, has been linked with Ipswich Town, who recently sacked manager Paul Jewell.
It is only the latest in a series of rumors surrounding the Blackpool manager, who has already been linked with Burnley, Blackburn and Crystal Palace.
Suarez has managed to find himself in the midst of a controversy…again, after his latest antic in the Merseyside derby against Everton.
Suarez, who forced an own goal, dived on purpose in front of David Moyes, who had accused him of diving just a day earlier. And if that wasn’t enough, he was booked for a stamp on Sylvain Distin’s ankle.
Which was lucky, when it was clearly deserving of a red card. And ironically, Suarez then scored in injury time of the second half, only for it to be wrongly ruled offside.
Considering he shouldn’t even have stayed on the field in the first place, Suarez shouldn’t feel too hard done by.
In today’s transfer round-up, Newcastle United have agreed to sign Moussa Sissoko from Toulouse, who is out of contract at the end of next season.
The 23 year old midfielder was also linked with Tottenham, Everton and Fulham, but it seems Newcastle have won the race.
Meanwhile, Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with Genoa full-back Marco Sampirisi, after reports that their respective scouts had watched the player in action against AC Milan on Saturday.
Arsenal continue to be linked with Crystal Palace starlet Wilfried Zaha, as reports continue to indicate that Theo Walcott is on his way out out of Arsenal.
