The Arsenal winger and his club have been in top form this season and Walcott believes he can inspire the national team to similar success. Walcott admitted to giving away a few of his own secrets despite being at a risk of surrendering to the competitiveness of the Premier League, for the greater good of his national team.
Hope to create a club-like atmosphere, says Walcott
Speaking at a press conference, Walcott said, “We want to make this like a club, basically. We want everyone to have the relationships they have with who they’re at clubs with. That’s what we’re starting to get with this England team.”
“I’ve probably given a few of my secrets away to my team-mates this week but it’s going to benefit England. That’s what we want, it’s all about England this week. We need to be positive, we’re going to be positive. Everyone’s in a good frame of mind.”
Walcott has been in sublime form this season scoring five goals in eight appearances for Arsenal. After being left out of the Euro 2016, his selection has been well deserved and the winger will look to grab hold of this opportunity and impress in England colours.
Walcott is in good frame of mind
Furthermore, Walcott disclosed the efforts it took for him to reinvent himself and explained the newfound positivity that seems to be reflecting in his attitude and performances.
"Obviously my football is going well at this moment in time. We all know it can change but I'm in the frame of mind where I don't want it to stop," he continued.“It can be easy when things are going well to take your foot off the gas slightly, but I've been around the game a long time, I don't want that to happen. I'm working tremendously hard. I just want to be better than the opposition I'm against, come training, come match day.”
