Thierry Henry perplexed by Jamie Vardy's indecision over Arsenal move
It’s not everyday one of the most respected managers in the game tables you an offer to play for one of the biggest clubs in England. But Jamie Vardy is probably in the right to think about his future at Leicester City as well.
The issue that pertains is the amount of time he is taking to decide on his future which is also a concern for Arsenal. If the striker turns the offer down after the Euros then the Gunners are back to square one, with a limited amount of time left to look for alternate options.
Gunners’ legend Thierry Henry is confused as to why any player would think twice before making a move to a bigger club. Speaking to ESPNFC, Henry was not amused with the time Vardy was taking with his decision
“All I can say is if I was playing for Leicester and I had Arsenal coming, and I'm 29, I would have gone. But I'm not Jamie Vardy, Either he has another proposition on the table, or Arsenal doesn't seem attractive to him anymore”, said the Frenchman.
“He had an amazing season, don't get me wrong, it will go down in history, But I have my question marks about if he can play in the last third when teams are waiting for you. He's been brilliant, but I'm just asking some questions along the way.”
“I would have walked to Arsenal. I find it bizarre. To turn round and say, 'I'm going to think about it,' I don't think Arsene Wenger will like that. You either want to go and play for Arsenal or you don't.”
Henry’s point of view is very valid but his judgement can be a little biassed given his emotional attachment to the club. While there are no qualms on Vardy’s quality as a striker there is the question mark over his adaptability to Arsenal’s system.
Leicester’s counter-attacking football served as the perfect platform for Vardy to use his pace. The Foxes were one of the teams with the least possession in the league, completely converse to the way Arsenal play.
Vardy is now a part of the England setup but many pundits have suggested Hodgson prefers Kane and Rooney because the manager does not want to alter the formation of his team to a 4-4-2.
Those same fears is what contains Arsenal fans' optimism of having one of the league's best forwards in their team. But when Wenger is ready to take that leap of faith it might be wise for the England man to jump ship before its too late.
