Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng, Xabi Alonso and Javi Martinez sign contract extensions with Bayern Munich
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have announced the successful contract extensions signed by four of their first team stars Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng, Javi Martinez and Xabi Alonso. While Muller, Martinez and Boateng have pledged their immediate futures to the club which will see them at Bayern at least until 2021, 34-year-old Xabi Alonso has agreed to stay at the club until 2017.
“We’re delighted these important players have made long-term commitments,” commented FC Bayern München chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “Thomas, Jerome and Javi know how to win trophies, including the Champions League. They will add quality and stability to our team in the long run.”
Thomas Müller has been at FC Bayern since the year 2000 and was consistently linked with a big-money move to the Premier league since the last few months, with former manager Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United touted as possible suitors.
Muller will stay at Bayern, regardless of what any club offers. There is no amount that would make us consider an offer,” the Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, recently told the German newspaper Bild. “[Lionel] Messi belongs to Barcelona, [Wayne] Rooney belongs to Manchester United and Muller belongs to Bayern. It should stay like that.”
“There might be players out there who have a better technique and who are faster, but there is no second Thomas Muller in this world. He is extremely valuable to us. He represents the Mia San Mia [We are we] feeling at Bayern.”
My family and me happy in Munich: Alonso
Jerome Boateng joined the club in 2011 from Manchester City and has been a regular with the team since then.
He said, “I’m pleased and happy at the chance to extend my stay here, I’m looking forward to the years ahead and aim for continuing great success with FC Bayern. This is a big contract for me and I’m delighted.”
Javi Martinez was delighted with the extension and said, “I’m very happy and proud about extending my contract until 2021. We have a magnificent team. Munich is a perfect city for a professional footballer, everyone is very respectful here and it’s all come together.”
Xabi Alonso added, “I’m pleased and delighted about extending my contract for one further year. My family and I are very happy in Munich, and that’s the most important thing.”
