Thomas Muller staying with Bayern Munich after snubbing interest from Manchester United
Thomas Muller, in an interview with Sport Bild, said he’s honoured by Manchester United’s apparent interest in him, but insisted that he is happy at Bayern Munich.
“When you receive an offer, you have to deal with it. A request from a big club is an honour and a reward that one’s performance is good,” Muller said.
Muller’s knack of scoring important goals has made him a fan favourite at Bayern Munich. His contributions have led to him being considered as something of a talismanic figure, even though he is just 25 yet.
Muller is hoping to repay that faith after committing his future to The Bavarians.
“I feel well at Bayern and my contract runs till 2019. There is nothing more to say about these speculations.”
According to the Mirror however, Muller did not specifically name Manchester United while revealing that Bayern Munich had rejected an approach for him. ESPN FC had reported in May that the Red Devils will make a bid in excess of £30 million to sign the German international in the summer.
LVG and Thomas Muller mutual admirers
Current United manager Louis van Gaal has had a big impact on Muller’s career. It was during the Dutchman’s second spell in charge at Bayern that Muller managed to break into the Bayern squad. In the 2008/09 season under Van Gaal, his first full season after signing a professional contract, Muller featured in all the Bundesliga games.
The respect is mutual as evident in Muller’s opinion about Van Gaal. In an exclusive interview with Squawka in May 2015, Muller was all praise for the man who gave him a chance to impress at Bayern.
“Van Gaal had a huge effect on my development. I am very grateful to him – he gave me great help and leadership, and he saw something in me as a forward, where some others didn’t.”
Muller wants Schweinsteiger to remain at Bayern Munich
Muller aired his opinion on team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger, who has also been linked with a move to the Red Devils.
“He will take a good decision on his future together with the club. I would be happy to play alongside him as long as possible,” Muller told Bild Sport.
