Thomas Muller says Pep Guardiola focused on Bayern Munich despite announcing departure

Guardiola has announced that he would step down as Bayern manager at the end of the season

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller believes that Pep Guardiola would be eager to finish his spell with the club on a high, after announcing that he will leave Germany at the end of the season. Guardiola’s contract with Bayern runs out in June and with the Spaniard expressing his eagerness to take up a challenging role in England, Bayern have already announced Carlo Ancelotti as his successor.

Premier League clubs Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United are all linked with the former Barcelona manager.

The Spaniard is now on course for a third successive league title this season being eight points clear of closest challengers Borussia Dortmund. Germany International Muller believes that Guardiola will fight for success in his last season with the Bavarians.

“We have known for two weeks now that he will go but we know one thing: Pep will do anything for success," the Germany international told Bild

"He does not change his attitude or work ethic. He wants to be successful. He wants the club to be successful. It would be very strange if suddenly he no longer did anything for success.”

"That would be crazy. He has done everything from the very first day here for success and he will do this until the last day, together with us."

Bayern on course for a treble this season

Bayern are in the running for the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and the Champions League this season and Muller believes that Guardiola wouldn’t want to sacrifice on any of the titles in his last attempt to win a treble with the German champions. The Spaniard will seek to emulate the treble achieved by his predecessor Jupp Heynckes in 2012-13 and Muller believes that there is no extra pressure going into the second half of the season.

"We want to build on our form in the first round. The conditions are good and the atmosphere in the team is excellent," he added.

"We do not feel the pressure of the treble. In Germany, we have always had the biggest pressure and we are accustomed to this. We want the maximum success possible, as always. But we also know that this is hard.”

Guardiola is yet to win the Champions League at Bayern- having exited in the semi-finals on their previous two attempts.
