Top 5 Asian goalscorers in the Premier League
Since the inaugural Premier League competition began in 1992-93, numerous players from different parts of the world have competed and celebrated the English game at its highest level.
Alan Shearer tops the goal charts with the most number of goals in PL history with 260 goals. In second place and the closest to the record is Wayne Rooney who could topple the great Englishman's record in a couple of years with Everton.
A number of Asian players have graced the English top flight in various positions but only a few strikers from Asia have made it to the Premier League. A continent that is still in the early stages of football development has produced some great players and will continue to flood foreign markets with players as time passes.
Here we take a look at the top 5 Asian goal scorers in the PL.
#5 Lee Chung-Yong (South Korea) - 8 goals
South Korean and Crystal Palace winger, Lee Chung-Yong began his career with FC Seoul in 2004 and spent five seasons at the club, making 54 appearances. The South Korean was then recruited by English club Bolton Wanderers in 2009 and went on to play over 150 times for the club in the English top-flight and Championship.
After impressing in a few Championship games, Lee was signed by Crystal Palace in 2015 and has been at the club since. Having made appearances inconsistently in the last couple of seasons, Lee still seems settled at the club and the 29-year-old is fifth on the list of highest scoring Asian in the PL with 8 goals.
7 of the 8 goals came for Bolton Wanderers and Lee has netted just once for Palace during his time with the club. Lee has also made 78 appearances for his country and has scored 8 times.
