Top 5 overrated players in the EPL
How many overrated players can you think of from the top of your head? I bet there’s quite a few. The money and media hype around football is approaching new levels of craziness and is set to get even worse in years to come.
We here at Squawka have compiled a list of five players in the Premier League who may be overrated. From a Manchester United striker to a Swansea City bargain, here’s our top five most overrated players in the Premier League.
Javier Hernandez – Manchester United
Javier Hernandez may be conceived as overrated due to his performances from the start for Manchester United. He has been hailed as a ‘super sub’, which is fair, but his impact from the bench has led to many to believe he deserves to start for Man United – but does he?
The Mexican has scored one goal in 13 Premier League games this season and grabbed 10 in 22 last season. He has only started four matches under David Moyes and is yet to score in those games. His only goal came in a 23-minute cameo in the second half against Stoke City. His impact from the bench is unrivalled, but that is as far as his talents go at United.
He is definitely overrated.
Kyle Walker – Tottenham
Kyle Walker is possibly the most overrated player in the Premier League. He is as fast as anyone, but his defensive abilities are often called into question. Despite this, a lot of pundits and fans alike seem to think he is the best right-back in England. The Tottenham fans even voted him as their best ever right-back!
In an attacking sense, he’s great and offers a lot going forward at Spurs. He’s created 28 chances this season which is the most at the club, but he has made one defensive error that led to a goal. Last season, he made five errors with two leading to a goal.
Walker is quite often found out of position and only makes up for it with his lightning pace. Without it, he’d struggle even more in the Premier League.
Christian Benteke – Aston Villa
Christian Benteke scored 19 goals in the league last season and looked set to leave Aston Villa for a hefty £30 million in the summer but has not shown the same goalscoring prowess this term. He scored his first goal in 11 matches in the defeat to Arsenal on Monday evening and has scored just five goals this season.
After kicking up a fuss in the summer and almost leaving Villa Park, his form has dropped dramatically and now it seems that no one is interested in signing the Belgian. Many have now started to question whether Benteke was a one-season wonder after struggling for so long this season.
Who knows? Maybe his goal against Arsenal will kick-start his season ahead of the World Cup in the summer.
