Top 6 unlikely transfers that might happen

The transfer market is a pretty unreliable place. With many leading websites suggesting various ridiculous transfer possibilities, you cannot get your head around everything. So here is a list of six ridiculous transfers that might happen.

# 1 – Robert Lewandowski to Manchester United

Robert Lewandowski of Borussia Dortmund

Sir Alex Ferguson recently went to Germany to witness the Cup Finals between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich possibly to see Shinji Kagawa, a Dortmund player whom he recently signed. Kagawa did well to impress Fergie, but the latter was also impressed by Robert Lewandowski, another Dortmund player who scored a hat trick that night.

Reports suggested that Lewandowski might be on his way to Old Trafford but Dortmund have so far rejected those claims. The transfer might not happen, but with Berbatov possibly leaving, United are on the look-out for potential strikers who could provide a new dimension to their game.

# 2 – Jan Vertonghen to Tottenham Hotspur

Vertonghen’s transfer to Spurs looked all but over. However, with Harry Redknapp’s dismissal, the deal now hangs in the balance. Ajax has given some excellent footballers to the English League and Vertonghen surely would be an impressive addition to the list.

Since Arsenal have shown interest in the player, Vertonghen’s move to Tottenham might be in a bit of a dilemma. Tottenham are yet to appoint a manager to fill Redknapp’s position and whoever is chosen, might or might not have Vertonghen in his plans.

Despite all these, there are reports that suggest Vertonghen will in fact move to Tottenham despite Redknapp’s dismissal.

# 3 – Mathieu Debuchy to Newcastle United

Mathieu Debuchy of Lille

Debuchy has been linked with the Magpies for a long time now. Newcastle supposedly faxed a transfer negotiation to Lille regarding Debuchy but Lille’s manager Rudi Garcia was not so impressed with the bidden amount. He laughed off the bid by saying that Newcastle “must have [got] the wrong player”.

But it is being said that Newcastle are very interested in Debuchy and they will in fact bid again with a higher transfer fee. If everything goes well, Debuchy could play in the Premier League next season.

# 4 – Clint Dempsey to Roma / Liverpool

A few months ago, a host of clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool were supposedly interested in Dempsey whose contract at Fulham runs out in July, 2013.

With Arsenal signing Podolski and Giroud, United signing Kagawa, it seems that Liverpool might be a possible destination for Dempsey who had a fantastic season, scoring 16 goals with Fulham. Recent reports also suggest that Roma too might be interested in the American forward.

The transfer fee is around 7 million Euros and it does sound like a good deal given the fact that he could be walking out for nothing in a years time. However, nothing has been finalized so far.

# 5 – Luka Modric to Real Madrid

If you are asking “why“, then you might have a point. Real Madrid have all the talent in their squad. Nuri Sahin will do the exact same job as Modric and there is no real need for the Croatian to join the Madrid squad.

LONDON, ENGLAND : Luka Modric of Tottenham Hotspur

But with Mourinho at the helm of affairs, the Special One is often well known for strengthening his squad with top class players and Luka Modric certainly falls under that category. Some Spanish media reports have also suggested that it is a done deal and the fee is around 30 Million Euros.

Manchester United were originally interested in Modric but they cannot match Madrid’s fee or salary and they have signed Kagawa a player who plays in the same position as Modric. With Redknapp’s departure, it will be very hard to make Modric stay in Tottenham anymore.

# 6 – Robin van Persie to Manchester City

With Arsenal signing Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski, they have to unload some of their forwards. Arsenal fans hope that it would be Carlos Vela and Marouane Chamakh. Unfortunately, it could be Robin van Persie too.

Arsenal v Chelsea - Premier League

LONDON, ENGLAND – APRIL 21: Robin van Persie of Arsenal

The Dutch talisman still hasn’t accepted a new deal from Arsenal and it most probably looks like Arsenal could lose yet another player to Manchester City.

Reports suggest that Manchester City could offer the Dutch forward a staggering salary in excess of £200,000 per week compared to his earnings at Arsenal, which is £135,000 per week. Arsene Wenger will desperately try to keep his star striker in London but it all comes down to van Persie and what he decides. Will he choose loyalty over a genuine title chance?
