Torres: "Nobody talks about what Chelsea is doing good!"

Fernando Torres has been the focus of media attention over the last few days.

Firstly, because of his two goals in two games that played a big part in us winning the Europa League and in addition, his winner against Everton that sealed a third place finish in the Premier League and automatic qualification to the Champions League group stages.

Secondly, the written press have been speculating this week about his future at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho and believe he could be sold, even though Torres himself has stated that he is keen to stay at the club.

Today, Torres has spoken of the progress that Chelsea has made in the last few seasons and is quick to point out that as a club, we do not receive the plaudits we have been entitled to.

He said:

“At least since I’m here it always looks a bit worse than it is really. I think we have had two really good seasons and we have won two European trophies, so things are not as bad as everyone says.

We’re happy for the progress of the team, we won the Champions League with one squad and this year with a newer squad, with five or six new players, young players. We have good success again in Europe and that it is not easy with so many changes in the team.

I think the players, the staff and the supporters are happy with what we are doing so hopefully we can build from what we have done in the last two seasons for the future.

Next season we have to think about even more trophies, especially the Premier League. It has been difficult to do well in the Premier League and I think it is a trophy the fans really want to win.

It looks like everything has been negative. Nobody really talks about what Chelsea is doing good. But at the end of the day in all sports it is about results. Results are good, we won the FA Cup, the Champions League and we have won the Europa League this season.

Things are going well. We have to be realistic with that. Chelsea has won three trophies in the last two years, it is not bad.”

You have to say looking at it like that, Torres is spot on, isn’t he! Chelsea get battered in the press throughout the season. Whether it’s the manager or the players, there is very rarely a paper that doesn’t include an article about the super blues!

When Jose Mourinho first came to Chelsea, you heard the players talk of the fact that he has installed a mentality within the squad of being Chelsea against the world, backs to the wall and that has remained part and parcel of our makeup, especially when it comes to the written press.

Obviously, at times we do not help ourselves but you simply cannot argue with our record in recent seasons. Three MAJOR trophies in two seasons, including TWO European Cups and the FA Cup is a massive achievement and there are clubs out there that would bite your hand off to win just the FA Cup.

These two seasons, as Torres says, have been good and successful but it’s now time to turn our focus and our challenge back on the Premier League as a priority. That’s why I believe Jose Mourinho is coming back.

We all know we have the quality, we all know we have the players, we just need that little bit extra “Special”.

Carefree & KTBFFH!
