Tottenham 1-2 Juventus (3-4 on aggregate): Player Ratings
Juventus came back from a goal down with two strikes in three second-half minutes to knock Tottenham Hotspur out and advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
A dominant Spurs took the lead in the first half after Son Heung-min scuffed his shot into the net following Kieran Tripper's square pass. Stephan Lichtsteiner's introduction on the hour-mark changed the direction of the tie, as strikers Gonzalo Higuain and Paolo Dybala scored in quick succession to break Spurs hearts.
The hosts rallied late on - Harry Kane hitting the post in the 90th minute - but were denied by some exquisite Juventus defending in the latter stages.
Here are the player ratings from an eye-catching game at Wembley.
Tottenham Hotspur
Hugo Lloris - 6/10
Lloris could not do much to prevent the two goals from being scored. Apart from picking the ball out of his net twice, the French shot-stopper didn't have much to do.
Kieran Trippier - 7/10
Trippier looked positive from the outset, pressing high up the pitch to put Juventus under pressure. He provided the assist for Son's goal with a well-judged square pass across goal.
Jan Vertonghen - 6/10
Vertonghen was lucky not to get penalized for what looked like a foul on Douglas Costa inside the box. He was guilty of a handful of rash challenges. He must share the blame for allowing Dybala to run straight through the defence in the build-up to Juventus' tie-winning goal.
Davinson Sanchez - 6.5/10
Sanchez made a couple of excellent challenges to neutralize Juventus' counter-attacks. He was rock-solid at the back and held off the aerial threat of Higuain for most of the game apart from those five killer minutes which swung the tie in the Old Lady's favour.
Ben Davies - 6.5/10
Davies, like Trippier, is a full-back who likes going up the field to supply crosses and square passes for the forwards to deal with. His balls into the box were well dealt with by some outstanding Juventus defending.
Eric Dier - 6/10
Dier was disciplined in defensive midfield for majority of the game, but will be held guilty for allowing Higuain to run across the width of the 18-yard box to score Juventus' equaliser.
Mousa Dembele - 7/10
Dembele was fantastic in the heart of Spurs' midfield, winning possession from the busy Dybala and setting up his side's attacking quartet with some fine forward passes.
Christian Eriksen - 6.5/10
Eriksen moved the ball neatly in the attacking third and played in Dele Alli and Harry Kane for them to capitalize on, but Juventus' defence stayed put and had an answer to just about any attempted key pass.
Dele Alli - 7/10
Alli's intensity in an attacking midfield role was a handful for Chiellini and co., though they eventually passed that test thanks to some vital challenges to disposses the 21-year old. He had a couple of cracks at goal, both well covered by Buffon.
Heung-min Son - 7.5/10
The Korean was arguably Spurs' best player on the night, displaying his hunger to have a go at an uncompromising Old Lady back-line.
He was lucky that his fluffed shot found its way in, but could also count himself unfortunate to narrowly miss the target from close range on a few other instances. He had the upper hand over veteran Barzagli at right full-back and put the Italian on his toes during their 60 minutes' head-to-head stint.
Harry Kane - 6.5/10
Kane missed a number of opportunities to score, rounding off Buffon only to find the side-netting from a tight angle in the first half, before being sensationally thwarted by a Chiellini tackle when the ball was certain to find its way into the English strikers' path.
He struck the woodwork with a 90th-minute header, summing up a frustrating evening for the Spurs' star which ended in agony for the North London outfit.
Substitutes
Erik Lamela - 6/10
Lamela looked dangerous as he brought the ball into play from the right side of midfield, but was not able to affect the final ball for his fellow forwards.
Fernando Llorente - NA
The tall striker was thrown on with minutes remaining in the hope of salvaging extra-time for the home side, but could not make his aerial attribute count for much. He should have been brought on earlier to pose more of a threat against the Juventus brick-wall.
